The minds behind Emetica

A rare pairing of deep pharmacoepidemiology and enterprise AI engineering — the two disciplines this problem actually requires.

Laurent Azoulay

Laurent Azoulay

Co-founder · Scientific lead

Laurent is a Full Professor and pharmacoepidemiologist at McGill University, jointly appointed in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health and the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology, and a Senior Investigator at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology at the Lady Davis Institute.

His research uses large electronic patient databases to evaluate the real-world safety and effectiveness of medications — generating robust evidence to support clinicians, patients, and policymakers. A distinguished research scholar (FRQS) and William Dawson Scholar, he brings decades of methodological depth in observational study design — the scientific rigor Emetica encodes into every study.

David Azoulay

Co-founder · Engineering & product lead

David is a technology leader with over 20 years of experience, specializing in agentic AI research and development. He has conceived, built, and deployed AI systems into production across organisations from startups to large enterprises, leading teams of architects and engineers to carry ambitious ideas from concept to dependable software at scale.

A McGill-trained software engineer and longtime founder, his work centers on AI that pairs machine reasoning with human judgment — grounded in serious architecture, rigorous safety and quality controls, and end-to-end observability, so it earns trust in real-world use. It's this depth in building AI that can be relied on for high-stakes work that Emetica is built on.
